Milan Design Week 2011 - Nendo's Transparency

Nendo at Galleria Jannone, a solo exhibition that explores transparency.

This chair is made with transparent polyurethane film with high elasticity and ability to return to its original state, commonly used as a packing material. The chair seems to consist of nothing but a backrest and armrests. 
Interesting and contemporary the theme of working on material taken from other contexts of use and reducing to minimum the need of joint, assembly and product weight.

Milan Design Week 2011 - Da morto a orto

An ironic interpretation of unused objects that are here resuscitated through converting into little domestic gardens by Peter Bottazzi e Denise Bonapace at Ingegnoli. Whenever I enter a garden I feel better but in this exhibition not only the plants and the flowers with its perfumes and colours make me feel that way because here sweet memories, old dreams of what it has been appears to enlight the spirit.

Multiple by the designer Raphael Charles presented in the Salone Satellite, is made of elements in solid beech joint one to another by a magnetic system which enables to modulate different shape according to use or to fantasy.

White Elephant an austrian design studio works on exploration and excitation of materials, always searching for their hidden qualities. The Ballon Light is a product that stimulates the senses, encourages play and creates emotions. A Helium filled balloon lampshade with a diameter of 80 cm. When plugged into a current tap it emits smooth cordial light, floating above the ground, swinging in the air. When unplugged, the lamp gently climbs up to the ceiling and waits for its deployment. Milan Design Week 2011 - Staking Throne

Amsterdam designer Laurens van Wieringen presents Stacking Throne a piled-up child’s chair at Ventura Lambrate this week. 

As the child grows the seat can be lowered by removing up  the foam components, which can then be used as toys or reconfigured into shelving.

Here’s Laurens van Wieringen talking about his project:

The Stacking Throne was a private commission and especially designed for 1 year old girl, Bodile. She can now use it throughout her life. 4 of 5 foam parts can be taken out and used as her imagination suits her. Some girl’s just get lucky!

Milan Design Week 2011 - Fisherman light

The Swedish designer Mattias Ståhlbom from TAF studio has created this polypropylene light in a hand knitted net for Swedish design brand Zero. This lights, called Fisherman, are based on old fashioned glass fishing floats once used by fishermen in many parts of the world to keep their nets afloat. The nets are individually hand knitted in Hönö on the west coast of Sweden.

Milan Design Week 2011 - Wood from recycled paper

The dutch designer Mieke Meijer will be at milan design week 2011's ventura lambrate area with 'newspaperwood' a product
that inverts the traditional production processes. The material is made from surplus of newspapers that are layered in such a way that they produce the effect of wood. It can be cut and treated like almost any other type of wood.  

Simplicity and use of existing elements characterized vij5 the dutch designlabel that produced the 'newspaperwood'.
